Coverage backer that plays like safety. Quick, fluid mover in space and tracks the ball carrier everywhere. Can bring a bigger pop than his size suggests.
Capable man coverage ability and solid awareness in zone. Gets a good bump in coverage and disrupts runners entering his zone.
Weaknesses:
Not a great play maker. Plays smaller than his listed size. Bullied by physical blockers. Can stop his feet as a tackler and give up yards after contact.
Overall:
One of the best coverage linebackers in this class, Werner has the athletic profile to excel in space and the recognition ability to get to the ball quickly. He's a solid tackler in space and a sniper on unsuspecting ball carriers.
He fills lanes quickly vs the run but does lack sand in his pants and give up yards after contact. That said, he's got few weaknesses besides sheer size and flash.
He reads & reacts well, rarely takes false steps, shows good range and reliable tackling. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go higher than expected and/or ought to contribute right away.
