"Physical, speed back with elusiveness and receiving ability who's tools project better to the NFL than his backfield mate but needs to improve his consistency to be a #1 RB."
Strengths:
Quick, physical, speed back with elusiveness and receiving ability. Solid vision and burst. Impressive lateral agility and contact balance. Breakaway speed guy in the open field.
Runs through arm tackles and finishes runs. Adept receiver with good ball skills and an experienced route runner. Dangerous returner.
Carter has all the tools to be a solid starting RB but took a bit of a complimentary role in 2020 to backfield mate Williams, in part because he wasn't as hard-nosed or reliable as Williams.
Weaknesses:
Pad level rises through the hole and doesn't always finish his runs. Inconsistent in pass pro.
Overall:
Carter appeared more explosive as a senior then he had previously and had his best season. He's an explosive hard runner that lacks some size.
He can be a tough tackle for defenders at times with good contact balance and quick feet. He'll exploit an opening with homerun speed and is comfortable filling a receiving role out the backfield.
His blocking can be occasionally sub par as opponents take advantage of his size.
